Pre-maintenance Resident Autonomous Method Post

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has demolished an illegal building that had been occupying district-owned land, an administrative property, without permission for 16 years after continuous communication.

The structure in question was a community autonomous crime prevention post located in Guui 2-dong. It began in 2008 under the name "Ondal Post," operated by residents who voluntarily patrolled high-crime areas. However, over the years, its crime prevention function weakened, and the building became old and hazardous, leading to numerous complaints requesting its removal.

In response, the district held several meetings with the post’s managers to persuade them of the necessity of demolition. They strongly explained that the aged steel exterior and entrance stairs posed safety threats. At the same time, they expressed sincere gratitude and encouragement to the operators who had served the local community for many years.

After relentless efforts starting in June 2023, consent for demolition was finally obtained. On the 25th of last month, the illegal building located at 86-4 Guui 2-dong was cleared, creating a wide and pleasant pedestrian path. The renovated road will be transformed into a convenience facility based on feedback from nearby residents.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, “This illegal building maintenance is another example demonstrating the power of communication,” adding, “With the belief that administrative strength comes from persistence, we will do our best to resolve any conflicts smoothly.”
