Ulsan City Selected for 'Regional Autonomous Digital Innovation Project' Competition
Building a Circular Economy and Carbon Neutrality Platform
Ulsan City has been selected for the "Regional Autonomous Digital Innovation Project" organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT, securing 1.35 billion KRW in national funding.
The "Regional Autonomous Digital Innovation Project" supports solving local issues such as industry and economy by utilizing digital technology.
Following this selection, the city will embark on building and demonstrating a product lifecycle management platform for a circular economy and carbon neutrality.
The project period is until December 2026, with a total budget of 2.7 billion KRW, including 1.35 billion KRW in national funding.
The project aims for digital innovation to address local issues through realizing eco-friendly values by industry, responding to international environmental regulations, and implementing eco-friendly policies via carbon neutrality and ESG management.
An official from Ulsan City stated, "We will do our best to lead the Ulsan industrial ecosystem toward a sustainable circular economy and contribute to carbon neutrality in key industries through the establishment and demonstration of an internet-based platform for digital innovation."
Ulsan accounts for 7.5% of the nation's greenhouse gas emissions, facing challenges such as securing digital countermeasures to support carbon neutrality realization and export support measures for Ulsan manufacturing companies responding to the EU's announced digital product passport system.
Accordingly, the city has formed a consortium consisting of Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, A-Tech, and ChainTree, planning to lead region-driven digital innovation through the development of an integrated platform for product lifecycle data management based on international standards.

In particular, Ulsan City plans to objectively prove eco-friendly and carbon-neutral production processes in the international market, support exports of Ulsan’s manufacturing industry, revitalize the regional economy, strengthen global technology and order competitiveness, and continuously accelerate digital innovation in manufacturing.
