View original image'Gijang-gun Residents' Day' is May 26th, the day in 1895 (the 32nd year of King Gojong) when the administrative organization was reorganized from Gijang-hyeon to Gijang-gun. It was established by a county ordinance in 2005, marking the 10th anniversary of Gijang-gun's restoration from Yangsan City in 1995. Since then, commemorative events have been held in connection with the Chaseong Cultural Festival or the Senior Citizens' Festival, but from 2011, the event was effectively discontinued as it was replaced by the Gijang Residents' Award Ceremony held during the Chaseong Cultural Festival.
Accordingly, the county decided to resume the 'Gijang-gun Residents' Day' event from this year to promote unity and patriotism among residents, and held the ceremony on the 25th in conjunction with the '25th Gijang Senior Citizens' Festival.'
At the ceremony, attended by about 6,000 people including County Governor Jeong Jong-bok and participating seniors, the official restart of 'Gijang-gun Residents' Day' was welcomed, and everyone prayed together for a leap toward a 'Great Gijang.'
Additionally, the county plans to continuously hold the 'Gijang-gun Residents' Day' ceremony by preparing plans to link it with other events such as the Chaseong Cultural Festival.
