Among them, odor complaints frequently arise from about 40 sites, leading Gyeongbuk Province to designate the Duryu Industrial Complex as an odor management area in May 2022.
The odor status survey is conducted annually to select areas where residents' health and living environment may be at risk as odor management areas, to conduct detailed investigations into the causes of odor emissions, and to establish measures for odor reduction and efficient management.
This survey selects 10 points including representative odor sites (management areas) within the Duryu Industrial Complex and residential impact areas, conducting surveys four times a year during dawn, daytime, and nighttime periods.
The survey items include 13 categories such as complex odors and designated odor substances, as well as meteorological data including wind direction, wind speed, and temperature.
As a result of investigating 120 points in 2023, complex odors in the management area exceeded the permissible standards 5 times in the first half and 2 times in the second half of the year.
