PMI, which visited Mayor Hong that day, is a non-profit association headquartered in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, USA, with a community of 700,000 project managers worldwide, supporting networks and resources in the PM field.
The meeting was held at PMI's request to learn in detail about Mayor Hong’s efforts to integrate PM into city administration according to global standards. Mayor Hong is unusually certified with the PMP (Project Management Professional) qualification among domestic local government heads.
Heo Riseon said, “First, I was surprised that the leader holds a PMP certification, and next, I was surprised that the affiliated employees are receiving related training,” adding, “What is even more impressive is that Mayor Hong is continuing to study PM-related topics.”
In response, Mayor Hong emphasized, “Major advanced countries invariably apply PM to projects with high technical difficulty and uncertainty,” and added, “Since my inauguration, our city has been applying this technique to manage difficult problems and large-scale projects.”
He continued, “In particular, our city is preparing a preliminary feasibility study to build a next-generation advanced complex beam research facility with a total investment of 450 billion KRW by 2028. This project is also being meticulously carried out by incorporating the PM perspective,” and added, “I am confident it will be a core project that guarantees the next 50 years of Changwon’s future.”
