Mutual Cooperation on Regional Specialized Visa Projects
On the 2nd, Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, signed a mutual cooperation agreement with the Goseong-gun Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Geoje University to successfully promote the regional specialized visa project, a public contest project by the Ministry of Justice.
At the signing ceremony, attended by about 20 officials including Lee Sang-geun, the county governor, Kim Oh-hyun, chairman of the Goseong-gun Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Heo Jeong-seok, president of Geoje University, they agreed to cooperate to attract outstanding foreign talent through the promotion of the 2024 regional specialized visa project.
The ‘regional specialized visa project’ is a program designed to induce settlement in the local community by granting visa exceptions (for more than 5 years) to foreigners needed in the region, on the condition of mandatory residence and employment for a certain period, to secure outstanding foreign talent. It started as a pilot project in 2022 and is being actively promoted this year.
Through this cooperation agreement, the county plans to establish an active cooperation system to attract outstanding foreign talent and link them with local companies, thereby revitalizing the local economy through population inflow.
In addition, a foreigner settlement support plan will be established so that outstanding talents such as foreign students can continue to reside and work in Goseong, and various policies will be promoted to harmonize and communicate with local residents.
Governor Lee said, “The regional specialized visa project has opened the way for excellent foreigners to reside and work in Goseong-gun for a long period,” adding, “We will do our best to promote the project to attract many outstanding foreign talents through continuous consultations with Gyeongsangnam-do, which is in charge of the project, so that the local economy can be further revitalized.”
