On the afternoon of the 2nd, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups held the 1st joint briefing session at the Busan·Gyeongnam Training Institute of the Small and Medium Business Corporation, together with related ministries and agencies, and announced support measures for companies responding to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism this year. The related agencies included the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Environment, and the Korea Customs Service.
Until now, briefing sessions conducted sporadically by each ministry and agency have been integrated and changed to regional “visiting briefing sessions.” Starting with the Yeongnam region briefing session on this day, sessions will be held in regions with many affected companies, such as the metropolitan area in May and October, and the Chungcheong region in July.
The consultation desks, which were divided between the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Environment, have been unified into the “Government Joint Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism Consultation Desk (Help Desk)” to improve user convenience.
Starting this year, a support project will also be implemented to provide consulting on carbon emission calculation for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies that lack experience in calculating carbon emissions. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will announce the second round of the related support project from May 6 to May 31. The Ministry of Environment plans to announce the project from the 22nd and accept company applications until June 17.
Export companies will also be informed in advance whether they are subject to the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. When domestic companies export target items to EU member countries, the Korea Customs Service Export-Import Company Support Center will contact companies via phone, text message, and email to provide guidance on the system.
