Gyeonggi-do to Support Disability Independence with 39 Projects by 2026
Gyeonggi Province will promote 39 projects in three areas?jobs, housing, and pre- and post-independence life support?for three years from this year until 2026 to support the independence of people with disabilities.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 2nd that it has established the "Gyeonggi Province Disabled Independent Living Support Plan," which includes these details, and will begin implementation from this month.
The Gyeonggi Province Disabled Independent Living Support Plan is a statutory plan that must be established every three years according to the "Gyeonggi Province Disabled Independent Living Support Ordinance." Its purpose is to provide the necessary administrative and financial support so that people with disabilities can choose and decide their own lives independently.
Gyeonggi Province plans to promote 39 detailed projects divided into three areas?jobs and income, housing, and pre- and post-independence support?after collecting opinions from related organizations.
Looking at the main contents, first, in the jobs and income area, the province will implement 22 projects including a job support project that provides public-type jobs to about 17,000 people over three years so they can maintain a basic livelihood through economic activities, vocational rehabilitation education projects for people with severe disabilities, and opportunity income for people with disabilities.
For housing support, experiential and living-type housing services suitable for the characteristics of disabilities will be provided, and 150 independent housing units will be established where users can actively choose their living space and necessary services. In addition, settlement funds for independent living to secure housing will also be supported.
In the pre- and post-independence life support area, 13 projects will be promoted, including conducting independence desire surveys, strengthening the function of the independence support group that serves as a gateway hub for independence, and supporting activity services for about 50,000 people to maintain smooth daily life and independent living in the local community after independence.
