However, Yeouiseo-ro Underpass (Seogang Bridge South Parking Lot to Yeoui Haryu IC) Section Traffic Control Lifted as Scheduled on April 3 Noon
During Control Period, Cherry Blossom Road Safety Management, Convenience Facilities, and Photo Zones Continue to Operate
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that the traffic control for the ‘Yeouido Spring Flower Festival,’ originally scheduled until 10 PM on April 4, will be extended until 2 PM on April 8 due to the slow cherry blossom blooming caused by low sunlight.
The district opened the ‘Yeouido Spring Flower Festival’ on March 29 around Yeouiseo-ro and the lower Han River Park area under Yeouiseo-ro. However, frequent rain and low sunlight delayed the blooming by about five days compared to the previous year, with flower buds starting to open only from March 31, causing disappointment among visitors to the festival.
As the cherry blossoms along Yeouiseo-ro are expected to be in full bloom starting this week, the district decided to extend the traffic control on the Yeouiseo-ro cherry blossom road behind the National Assembly (from the intersection at the southern end of Seogang Bridge to Gate 3 of the National Assembly). This measure is to ensure the safety of visitors, anticipating many spring visitors on the weekend.
Accordingly, the traffic control, originally scheduled until 10 PM on April 4, will be changed to 2 PM on April 8. However, the traffic control on the lower Yeouiseo-ro road section (from the parking lot at the southern end of Seogang Bridge to Yeoui-haryu IC) will be lifted as originally planned at 12 PM on April 3.
Additionally, to allow visitors to fully enjoy spring, the operation of convenience facilities and rest areas along the cherry blossom road?including ▲picnic shelters ▲popup gardens ▲photo zones ▲restrooms ▲stroller and baby wagon rentals ▲baby rest areas ▲tourist information centers ▲and medical stations?will also be extended. Large sculptures by artists, which were installed at the main event site of the spring flower festival, can be seen along the Yeouiseo-ro cherry blossom road. Street performances to ease the festival’s disappointment will be held on weekends in front of Gate 7 of the National Assembly.
Previously, the district coordinated with related organizations such as the police, fire department, and the National Assembly to ensure safe control operations, including safety management and emergency response systems along the cherry blossom road. Order maintenance around Yeouinaru Station and traffic discipline by exemplary drivers will also be extended.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “As many spring visitors are expected this weekend, we plan to extend the originally scheduled traffic control period on the cherry blossom road for visitor safety. We hope everyone creates beautiful spring memories with the belatedly blooming cherry blossoms instead of feeling disappointed by the festival.”
