Gangseo-gu Operates Traffic Safety Instructors for Elementary School Students on Both To and From School Routes
Hiring 49 People to Expand Operations... Deployed to 16 Elementary Schools
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) will expand the operation of traffic safety instructors who assist children with their commute home to include the school arrival time in the new semester. Amid ongoing child traffic accidents, Gangseo-gu has hired 49 traffic safety instructors to create safer school routes.
These instructors help ensure the safe walking of children in hazardous sections of elementary school routes and prevent accidents involving school vehicles. In dangerous areas around elementary schools where pedestrians and vehicles mix, they provide crosswalk signal guidance, control vehicle traffic, and report safety hazard factors near school routes.
They also educate children on traffic safety rules and how to respond in dangerous situations, and accompany groups of about 3 to 8 lower-grade students (grades 1 to 3) heading in the same direction to their homes, assisting with safe returns. Traffic safety instructors are divided into teams by designated routes and operate for 1.5 hours during school arrival times and 2 hours during dismissal times.
