Narcolepsy is a rare disease affecting only 0.03?0.16% of the total population. It is characterized by an inability to resist sleepiness, and once asleep, it is difficult to wake up. Two years ago, the teacher found a student deeply asleep in the classroom; even pinching or splashing water on the face did not wake the student. At that time, the teacher learned that the student was a narcolepsy patient.
The student had been receiving treatment at a hospital for nearly two years, but the symptoms only slightly improved. Xu Longjin told the media, "The frequency of the student falling asleep used to be about 2?3 times a week, but now it has decreased."
The narcoleptic student was also at risk of suddenly falling asleep while going home. Concerned for the student's safety, Xu Longjin decided to carry the child on his back and escort them home. The student weighed about 40 kg, and going up and down from the 4th-floor classroom to the 1st-floor parking lot was quite a strenuous task.
Meanwhile, it was reported that the student lives with their grandparents. The student's grandparents expressed their gratitude, saying, "Thanks to the teacher's help, we were able to send the child to school. The teacher was truly kind."
Local netizens who heard the story praised the teacher, saying, "A responsible and true mentor," "I salute you," and "Something even parents would find difficult to do."
