Gyeonggi-do Light Pollution Prevention Committee Discusses 'Light Pollution Environmental Impact Assessment Results' and More
Gyeonggi Province held the ‘Gyeonggi Province Light Pollution Prevention Committee’ on the 26th to protect the health of residents from increasing light pollution damage and to enhance the sense of convenience in daily life.
The Light Pollution Prevention Committee is an advisory body on light pollution-related policies in Gyeonggi Province. At the meeting, they discussed the results of last year’s environmental impact assessment on light pollution in Gyeonggi Province and the research project for the ‘Light Pollution Prevention Plan (2025?2029)’ to be implemented from 2025.
In the environmental impact assessment report, the Light Pollution Prevention Committee pointed out that although 29 cities and counties, excluding Gapyeong and Yeoncheon counties, are designated as lighting environment management zones in Gyeonggi Province, light pollution and complaints continue to occur in Gapyeong and Yeoncheon counties, raising the necessity to include them in the lighting environment management zones.
Additionally, the research project for the ‘Gyeonggi Province Light Pollution Prevention Plan’ will include measures by sector and stage to prevent light pollution, nighttime landscape guidelines, issues with light pollution-related systems, and recommendations on the role of the central government.

Park Dae-geun, Director of the Environmental Health and Safety Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Complaints related to light pollution are steadily increasing," adding, "While artificial lighting makes our lives more convenient, problems such as inconvenience in daily life and threats to ecosystems caused by light pollution also persist, so systematic management of artificial lighting is necessary."
