Police Officer Promoted for Cracking Down on Gambling Site Operation Worth 500 Billion Won

On the 26th, Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, visited the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency to promote officers who contributed to the arrest of the main suspects of a 500 billion KRW gambling site operation organization based overseas, and awarded commendations to police officers of the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency who greatly contributed to the arrest of criminals through active investigations.
The honor of this promotion went to Lieutenant Lee Yun-ho of the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit at the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency. Based on intelligence obtained during interviews with juvenile offenders, Lieutenant Lee conducted persistent undercover investigations and arrested three juvenile suspects who received money from the gambling site operators and advertised the site.
Additionally, through account and communication investigations, he played a decisive role in tracking and arresting key suspects, including the intermediaries who employed these juveniles and the gambling site operators.
Sergeant Kim Ki-rim of the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit at the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency was recognized for his contribution to identifying suspects residing overseas through meticulous analysis of seized items and received a commendation from the Commissioner of the National Police Agency.
On this day, Commissioner Yoon stated, “Due to easy accessibility through smartphones, so-called ‘casino in the palm of your hand’ cyber gambling is spreading widely across all age groups,” adding, “The spread of cyber gambling within peer groups, especially among curious and self-controlled juveniles, is a very concerning situation.”
