Lee Woo-jung, CEO of Woojung Film and producer of the movie '1987 (2017)', passed away on the 22nd at the age of 55. According to the film industry, he had been battling cancer for a long time and passed away that morning.
Born in 1969, the late Lee graduated from Chung-Ang University with a degree in Korean Literature and worked at film production companies such as Myeong Film. He participated in the production of various films including 'YMCA Baseball Team (2002)', 'Kwang-sik's Younger Brother Kwang-tae (2005)', 'The Front Line (2011)', and 'C'est Si Bon (2014)'. Later, he established Woojung Film and led the production of films such as '1987' and 'Steel Rain 2: Summit (2020)'. The company's debut film '1987' attracted 7,231,638 viewers and was a box office success. The following year, it received several awards including the Planning Award at the Grand Bell Awards, Best Film at the Blue Dragon Film Awards, and Best Film at the Korean Film Producers Association Awards.
