Confirmed: Both Korean Crew Members Dead in Abalone Incident Involving Korean-Flagged Vessel in Japan

It was confirmed on the 21st that two Korean crew members of a Korean-registered ship that capsized off the coast of Shimonoseki City, Japan, on the 20th have both died.
Kyodo News reported that the Japan Coast Guard rescued one more crew member of the Korean-registered chemical product transport ship that capsized off Mutsure Island, Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, western Honshu, the previous day. The news agency stated that the condition of the crew member was not confirmed, but it was known that the person was already deceased at the time of rescue.
According to diplomatic authorities, the deceased was confirmed to be the Korean captain in his 60s who was on board the ship. The ship had a total of 11 people on board, including 2 Koreans (the captain and the chief engineer), 8 Indonesians, and 1 Chinese.
The Japan Coast Guard deployed helicopters and patrol vessels the previous day to rescue 9 out of the 11 crew members and transported them to the hospital, but 8 of them, including the Korean chief engineer in his 60s, died.
