'Launch Ceremony of the Ondevice AI Challenge'
"Discovered Ondevice AI Technology to be Equipped on Gram Notebook"

LG Electronics is teaming up with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Intel, and Microsoft to discover on-device artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The goal is to find innovative technologies to lead the AI laptop market. On-device AI refers to devices that implement AI functions without needing a network connection.

On the 21st, LG Electronics announced that it held the launch ceremony for the 'On-Device AI Challenge' together with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Intel Korea, and Microsoft Korea at the Chosun Palace Seoul Gangnam in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Attendees included Oh Young-joo, Minister of SMEs and Startups, Jang Ik-hwan, Vice President and Head of LG Electronics' Business Solutions (BS) Division, Kwon Myung-sook, CEO of Intel Korea, and Jo Won-woo, CEO of Microsoft Korea.

This challenge was organized to discover and support outstanding startups with on-device AI technologies. The technology fields to be discovered include security solutions using on-device AI, entertainment, productivity enhancement, hardware performance improvement, and program development. LG Electronics plans to accelerate securing leadership in the AI laptop market by integrating the discovered on-device AI technologies into the next-generation 'LG Gram.'

By applying on-device AI technology, users will be able to utilize AI features embedded in laptops without an internet connection, such as real-time translation and interpretation functions. It will also be possible to create drawings, videos, and music. AI is expected to analyze customer usage patterns to improve hardware performance, including central processing unit (CPU) performance and battery efficiency. On-device AI offers higher security than cloud AI. It also provides faster processing speeds and lower power consumption.

Startups discovered through the challenge will receive technical support in various fields during the proof of concept (PoC) phase, including devices (LG Electronics), chipsets (Intel), and software (Microsoft). PoC costs for selected startups will also be supported.

The challenge is open to startups established within the last 10 years that have software development capabilities using on-device AI and Intel's OpenVINO toolkit. Applications can be submitted on the K-Startup website from today until the 11th of next month.

Vice President Jang said, "We will collaborate with promising startups to discover innovative on-device AI technologies to be applied to the next-generation LG Gram, providing customers with a differentiated AI user experience."
