Construction of the 'Tongil Plus Center' at Uijeongbu Camp La Guardia Return Base
Gyeonggi Province will build the ‘Gyeonggi-do Unification+ (Plus) Center’ early next year on the returned Camp La Guardia site located in Uijeongbu City to foster a consensus among residents on peace and unification.
The Unification Plus Center is a regional hub participation platform themed around unification, established by the Ministry of Unification in seven regions nationwide. Starting with the Incheon area in 2018, it has currently opened in the Honam region (Mokpo) and is scheduled to open in the Gangwon region (Chuncheon) in the second half of this year. It provides comprehensive services in the field of unification and expands public participation and communication regarding unification and inter-Korean policies.
The Gyeonggi-do Unification Plus Center was selected through the Ministry of Unification’s public contest in 2021. As the fourth center to be established nationwide, the Gyeonggi-do Unification Plus Center will have one basement floor and three above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 2,100㎡. The total project cost, including land acquisition and construction, is 12.9 billion KRW. Construction began in January, with completion targeted for February next year.
The Unification Plus Center is a facility designed to provide one-stop comprehensive administrative services and a complex cultural space related to peace and unification. The first floor will include lounges, study cafes, and resource rooms as communication and rest spaces for residents. The second floor will be a complex cultural space featuring a peace and unification experience center and a performance hall. The third floor will house participation and education spaces related to peace and unification, as well as support facilities for North Korean defectors.

The experience spaces within the center will be created with experiential content themed around peace and history. Additionally, through various programs such as cultural lectures and events, hobbies, and humanities courses, it will operate as a resident-friendly peace and unification cultural space.
