Gwangjin-gu to Implement Safe Return Home Scout Program in 2024
From March, 8 Scout members will accompany individuals home divided into 3 zones
Operating hours: Monday 10 PM?12 AM, Tuesday to Friday 10 PM?1 AM next day
Applications available via Ansim-i app, phone, or on-site visit
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) takes responsibility for safe returns home on late-night streets. Starting this month, the "Safe Return Scout Service" is officially launched to accompany women and youth vulnerable to crime late at night all the way to their doorstep.
Since 2013, the Safe Return Scout program has consisted of teams of two members who assist residents in returning home safely during late-night hours. This year, after a rigorous selection process, eight scout members were chosen. They operate mainly in three areas?Children’s Grand Park Station, Achasan Station, and Junggok Station?where residential neighborhoods and single-person households are concentrated.
Those wishing to use the service can apply in advance via the "Seoul Ansim-i App" or by phone or in person at the district office’s situation room.
Operating hours are from 10 PM to midnight on Mondays, and from 10 PM to 1 AM the following day from Tuesday to Friday. The service does not operate on Saturdays and public holidays.
In addition to supporting safe returns home, scout members conduct patrols in vulnerable areas and promote crime prevention. They regularly patrol sparsely populated residential areas, dark alleys, entertainment districts, and school surroundings.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We implemented the ‘Safe Return Scout’ program so that residents can feel secure even late at night. We encourage many women and youth who are easily exposed to crime to use this service.” He added, “Besides the scout program, we are building a social safety net through various initiatives such as the Safe Village Security Guards, unmanned safe parcel lockers, and Safe Keeper Houses. We will do our best to ensure that all residents can enjoy a safe and happy daily life.”
