Gwangju Nam-gu Increases LPG Storage Tanks to Save 40% on Fuel Costs
Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will expand the distribution of small LPG storage tanks to reduce energy costs for residents of Suchun Village, an area without urban gas supply, following Daechon-dong Dogeum Village last year.
On the 15th, Nam-gu announced, "We have been selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's '2024 Village-level LPG Small Storage Tank Distribution Project' and plan to invest 580 million KRW this year to provide stable energy to 40 households in Suchun Village."
Since being selected for the village-level LPG small storage tank project in 2020, Nam-gu has been increasing the distribution of LPG small storage tanks in the rural Daechon area, having been selected three times including last year and this year.
The reason for steadily increasing these facilities in the Daechon area is that it greatly helps residents living in areas without urban gas supply by reducing fuel costs and improving convenience and safety.
In fact, after being selected for the project in 2020, Nam-gu became the first autonomous district in the country to install LPG small storage tanks in Wonsan Village, Daechon-dong, supplying LPG to 36 households.
After the installation of the small LPG storage tanks, it was found that the energy costs for residents of Wonsan Village decreased by about 40% per household on average.
With the confirmed energy cost reduction effect in Wonsan Village, Nam-gu is focusing on expanding LPG energy supply facilities in rural villages through government public projects.
In particular, Nam-gu achieved the result of securing a total project budget of about 1.3 billion KRW by being selected for the public project two years in a row, including last year and this year.
The 770 million KRW secured last year is being used for small LPG storage tanks, household piping, and boiler installation to supply energy to 48 households in Dogeum Village, and the energy supply facility project in Dogeum Village is expected to be completed soon.
Meanwhile, in Suchun Village, the target area for this year’s LPG small storage tank distribution project, full-scale construction is expected to begin in June, and the project is likely to be completed by the end of this year.
