Welfare Minister Cho Kyu-hong: "The collective resignation of medical school professors who abandoned patients is unacceptable to the public"
"If Concerned About Residents and Students, Persuade Them to Return to Patients' Side"
The government urged medical school professors who have expressed their intention to resign en masse to persuade their students to return instead of engaging in collective action.
Cho Kyu-hong, the 1st Deputy Head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) for doctors' collective action and Minister of Health and Welfare, said at the CDSCH meeting held at the Government Seoul Office on the morning of the 15th, "The public will not understand professors who should be persuading residents and medical students to return to hospitals and schools but instead are leaving patients and engaging in collective action," adding, "If you sincerely care about the residents and students, please persuade them to return to the patients' side and the place of learning."
Minister Cho said, "The illegal collective action of residents continues, and recently, there are also medical school professors who have expressed their intention to resign en masse," adding, "This is very regrettable and unfortunate."
He said, "I hope you show the residents and medical students the dedication you have shown so far in valuing patients' lives and focusing on treatment," and added, "Also, please participate in discussions for the development of the medical system so that residents can grow under better conditions."
