A 'Rest Area for Delivery and Substitute Drivers' to Be Established in Gangseo-gu
Consultations on Industrial Accidents, Safety Education, and More
A rest area for platform workers such as designated drivers and delivery workers will be established in Gangseo-gu.
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 14th that it was finally selected in the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s ‘Platform Workers Workplace Improvement Support Project’ competition and secured 53 million KRW in national funding.
Platform workers are laborers who provide services such as delivery and designated driving through online platforms and receive payment. Although the number of platform workers is steadily increasing, there is a lack of rest areas and safety measures for them.
Accordingly, the district applied for the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s public project earlier this year to provide a safe working environment for platform workers and was selected this time. The district plans to create a rest area for platform workers by combining the 53 million KRW in national funding secured through the project with 53 million KRW from the district budget. They are looking for the optimal location considering accessibility, convenience, and ease of parking.
The rest area will be equipped with convenience facilities such as air conditioners, phone chargers, and air purifiers, and will operate with an unmanned system so that platform workers can use it freely without any registration procedures or access cards.
In the second half of this year, the district plans to provide industrial accident consultations and safety education for platform workers, aiming to socially protect workers who are in the blind spots of laws and systems.
