US White House on House Passage of 'TikTok Ban Act': "Hope for Swift Action in Senate"
The White House stated on the 13th (local time) that it "hopes for swift action in the Senate" following the passage of the 'TikTok Ban Act' in the House of Representatives.
On the same day, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that bans the distribution of TikTok on U.S. app markets until ByteDance, TikTok's Chinese parent company, sells its U.S. operations.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at a briefing, "We are pleased to see progress on this bill" and welcomed it as part of ongoing efforts to address threats posed by certain technology services that jeopardize national security and the personal information of Americans.

Jean-Pierre emphasized that the bill does not ban TikTok outright. However, if the law is enacted, ByteDance would find it practically difficult to operate TikTok in the U.S. She stated, "What the bill aims to do is to ensure that ownership of this app is not in the hands of those who could misuse it or harm the United States," adding, "We want the bill to have the strongest possible legal foundation."
