Yisang-il, Mayor of Yongin, "Citizen Opinions Must Be Actively Reflected in Urban Regeneration Facilities"
Site Inspection of Singal Intersection Urban Regeneration Project
Lee Sang-il, mayor of Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, emphasized the need for active reflection of citizens' opinions in the process of preparing major facilities for the urban regeneration project.
On the 12th, Mayor Lee inspected the site of the Singal Five-way Intersection urban regeneration project aimed at revitalizing the old downtown area and made these remarks. This project was selected as a target site for the urban regeneration project led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2020. The city is currently carrying out the project with a budget of 51.4 billion KRW to revitalize the Singal Five-way Intersection area, which has declined due to the outflow of resident population and businesses.

On the same day, Mayor Lee toured the site of the 'Shared Platform,' which is being created with a total project cost of 16.6 billion KRW. The 'Shared Platform' plans to operate a youth lab and programs to support youth entrepreneurship to attract young people. It will also provide welfare services to children from multicultural families, dual-income couples, and single-parent families by establishing a multicultural family exchange space and a community care center.
Mayor Lee said, "It is necessary to hold briefings and reflect citizens' opinions in the preparation of facilities," and added, "I hope efforts will be made to create infrastructure so that young people visit the old downtown and commercial districts can be revitalized."
Mayor Lee also inspected the nearby public parking lot and the available parking spaces on alley street parking, the parking guidance and smart crosswalk system, a smart walking assistant for health management of seniors aged 60 and over, the community platform that shares the progress of the urban regeneration project with residents and collects data, and the status of creating a Museum Art Street equipped with rest areas and benches by abolishing existing street parking lots.
In particular, Mayor Lee carefully checked the safety of school commuting by visiting the site of the Safe Children Alley project around Singal Elementary School and inspecting the operation of vehicle entry guide signs.
