Gwangju Health and Environment Research Institute Conducts Soil Pollution Survey
The Gwangju Metropolitan City Health and Environment Research Institute will conduct the "2024 Soil Pollution Survey" targeting 105 sites of concern for soil pollution, including industrial complexes, factories, traffic-related facilities, and groundwater contamination areas, starting from the 13th.
The survey items include a total of 23 items such as heavy metals and volatile organic compounds. If the survey results exceed the soil pollution concern standards, orders for remediation will be issued.
In last year's soil pollution survey, out of 100 surveyed sites, four locations related to waste disposal and recycling exceeded the soil pollution concern standards for zinc, lead, and phenols, and soil detailed investigations and restoration work are underway.
The Gwangju Health and Environment Research Institute plans to increase the number of survey points to 115 by 2030 in accordance with Gwangju City's Soil Conservation Plan.

Jung Hyun-cheol, director of the Health and Environment Research Institute, said, "Soil pollution is not easily visible on the surface, making it difficult to detect, but restoration is even harder. We will continue to conduct soil pollution surveys and do our best to create a soil environment where citizens can live with peace of mind."
