Despite Unusual Discounts... Sharp Decline in iPhone Sales in China
Apple iPhone sales in China have sharply declined despite an unusual discount event.
According to market research firm Counterpoint on the 5th, iPhone sales in China decreased by 24% during the first six weeks of this year compared to the same period last year.
As a result, Apple's market share in the Chinese smartphone market dropped to 15.7%, ranking 4th.
During the same period last year, Apple's market share was 19%, ranking 2nd.
Last week, Apple offered subsidies on Alibaba Group's online shopping mall Tmall, discounting prices by up to 1,300 yuan (approximately 240,000 KRW), but sales sluggishness continued.
While Apple is struggling, China's Huawei sales have surged by 64% since the beginning of this year.
Its market share also jumped significantly from 9.4% last year to 16.5%, rising to 2nd place within a year.
