Sergeant Jeon Jae-ha of the Busan Yeonje Police Station’s Traffic Safety Division noticed a woman in her 70s pulling a rear cart in the second lane near the middle of the tunnel while passing through the first lane of the two-lane one-way Yeonsan Tunnel. At that time, surrounding vehicles were moving quickly, the tunnel was not well-lit, and the woman’s dark-colored clothing made her difficult to see.
Sergeant Jeon immediately switched lanes to the right side of the tunnel with sirens on to stop his vehicle, prompting other drivers to slow down. He then ran at full speed pulling the rear cart and moved it outside the tunnel. Afterward, he returned, helped the elderly woman into the patrol car, and rescued her to the pedestrian walkway outside the tunnel. He also made sure to warn her to be cautious.

Sergeant Jeon said, “I’m very relieved to have found her first. That tunnel is a curved road with heavy traffic, so if she had been discovered late, there was a risk of a rear-end collision or other accidents.” It is known that this area frequently experiences fatal and collision accidents. The police stated they will continue to work hard to ensure citizens’ safety.
