Gyeonggi-do Increases 10,000 Queen Bees to Restore Winter Honeybee Damage
Gyeonggi Province is set to increase the production of 10,000 queen bees for distribution to help beekeeping farms recover from winter damage.
On the 5th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will select 67 queen bee breeding farms and support each farm with beekeeping supplies worth 3.6 million KRW. The province plans to connect breeding farms with affected farms to ensure timely supply of queen bees.
Gyeonggi Province plans to start breeding by the end of this month and expects to supply 10,000 queen bees as early as the end of May. If conditions such as weather are favorable and mass distribution occurs early, it can be utilized for honey harvesting during the acacia blooming season, which is expected to help restore the income of beekeeping farms.
Additionally, from July, after the peak honey harvesting season, farms will be able to breed queen bees on their own, enabling stable beekeeping operations.
