Daegu Suseong University Achieves 100% Freshman Enrollment for 3 Consecutive Years... 'Result of Continuous Quota Reduction'
Suseong University (President Kim Seon-sun) has overcome the challenging admissions environment caused by the absolute decline in the school-age population and achieved 100% enrollment of new students in the 2024 academic year admissions, becoming the only university in the Daegu area to record 100% new student enrollment for three consecutive years.
This achievement by Suseong University is analyzed as a result of steadily strengthening the university’s internal capabilities, such as creating an adult learner-friendly educational environment by establishing a lifelong learning system in preparation for the decline in the school-age population, as well as proactively restructuring by continuously reducing enrollment quotas and establishing new departments to prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era.
In the 2024 academic year admissions, which closed at midnight on the 29th of last month, Suseong University enrolled a total of 1,488 new students, including 1,190 within the quota, 188 outside the quota, and 110 in the major deepening program, achieving a 100% enrollment rate. Accordingly, Suseong University is the only specialized college in the Daegu area to record 100% new student enrollment for three consecutive years.
This admissions success is attributed to early efforts to establish a lifelong learning system, including operating weekend and night classes and offering curricula designed for adult learners planning their second life, in order to create an adult learner-friendly educational environment in preparation for the absolute decline in the school-age population.
Additionally, the university focused on strengthening its internal capabilities by expanding scholarships, constructing modern dormitories, building lecture halls and multipurpose auditoriums for nursing and health science students, and introducing various scholarship programs and improving the educational environment for students.
Furthermore, over the past five years, the university reduced enrollment by 300 students through the closure of marginal departments and proactively responded by establishing new departments suited to the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, such as the Metaverse Creator Department, AI Big Data Department, Drone Mechanical Department, and Webtoon & Web Novel Department, which the university views as a key factor in its success.
