Gwangyang Steelworks Offers Interns a "3m High Fall Accident Experience"
Experiences such as High-Altitude Work and Confined Space Training
POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Dong-ryeol) conducted on-site customized safety training for production technology intern employees from the 22nd to the 23rd, strengthening the safety awareness of future talents who will lead the steelworks.
The intern training held at the Gwangyang Steelworks Safety Culture Experience Center was part of the tier-specific customized safety education promoted by Gwangyang Steelworks, consisting mainly of practical training applying safety knowledge required in actual fieldwork.

The purpose is to cultivate the safety capabilities of interns so that they can immediately respond to hazardous situations even after being assigned to the field by acquiring safety knowledge in advance.
The training process included experiencing potential hazardous situations that may occur on-site firsthand, discovering latent risks in the field, and practicing safety procedures to respond to on-site dangers.
First, in the process of experiencing hazardous situations, interns experienced falling from a platform about 3 meters high while wearing a safety belt, helping them understand the importance of wearing safety belts during high-altitude work. The virtual high-altitude work training ground set up at the Gwangyang Steelworks Safety Culture Experience Center was created to closely resemble the actual site, and the fall scenario training provided interns with a more realistic training experience, according to reports.
Additionally, a program was conducted where interns practiced how to respond to situations occurring during work in confined spaces on-site, which is expected to enable them to respond quickly in emergencies after deployment.
Moreover, programs included practicing the proper wearing of various safety protective gear such as cut-resistant gloves, conducting pre-work safety inspection meetings (Tool Box Meeting, TBM), and practicing Isolation Locking System (ILS) procedures to cut off energy sources before equipment inspection and repair work.
An intern who participated in this training said, “Practicing in a training ground similar to the actual site allowed me to learn safety knowledge I had only studied theoretically in a more vivid way,” and added, “I gained confidence that I will be able to respond immediately in emergencies when deployed to the field in the future.”
