Chung Eui-sun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, met with Carlos Gilberto Calilotti Junior, President of the University of S?o Paulo, on the 22nd (local time) to discuss industry-academia cooperation plans in the eco-friendly sector.
Founded in 1934, this university has produced 12 presidents since its establishment. In 2016, it built a Greenhouse Gas Innovation Center to produce hydrogen using second-generation ethanol. According to the company, the university is conducting various eco-friendly research and projects covering greenhouse gas reduction, bioenergy utilization, and carbon capture and storage technologies.

On the same day, Hyundai Motor Group announced plans to invest $1.1 billion (approximately 1.5 trillion KRW) in Brazil by 2032 to develop eco-friendly businesses and technologies such as hydrogen and to introduce various electrified vehicles locally. Before coming to S?o Paulo, Chairman Chung met with Brazilian President Luiz In?cio Lula da Silva in Bras?lia to discuss these plans.
The decision to engage in eco-friendly business using an industry-academia cooperation model that includes local schools was based on the judgment that Brazil is leading the renewable energy market in Latin America. Last year, during business trips to the United States and Vietnam, Chairman Chung also met with university officials such as the president of Georgia Institute of Technology and the president of Hanoi National University to discuss talent development and industry-academia cooperation plans.
Chairman Chung said, "We aim to resolve energy inequality through hydrogen energy and accelerate the transition to a hydrogen society," adding, "We look forward to leading Brazil's clean energy market through close cooperation with the University of S?o Paulo, which possesses a high level of competitiveness in various eco-friendly fields."
