New Novel 'Hyeol-ui Nu' Auctioned... Starting Price 100 Million Won
The novel "Bloodstained Pavilion," written by Lee In-jik and published in 1908, is going up for auction.
The auction house Kobe Auction announced on the 22nd that a total of 670 items, including the book "Bloodstained Pavilion," will be auctioned online on the 28th in the "Traces of Life" auction. "Bloodstained Pavilion" is considered the first modern novel depicting the life of the 7-year-old protagonist Okryeon, who lost her parents while fleeing during the outbreak of the First Sino-Japanese War in 1894. The starting bid is 100 million KRW. A Kobe Auction representative explained, "It is known that a reprint was made one year after the first edition was published, but after the Japan-Korea Annexation, publication was prohibited, so the existing quantity is extremely rare."
The auction will also feature the first edition of Shim Hun's novel "Sangnok-su," published by Hanseong Book Company in 1936, former President Syngman Rhee's representative work "Spirit of Independence," and documents related to Admiral Yi Sun-sin's activities. The exhibited items can be viewed from the 26th to 28th until 1 p.m. at the 3rd floor of Suwoon Hall, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
