'Meeting New Public Officials' Kim Dong-yeon: "Don't Just Do What You're Told, Raise Different Voices"
On the 21st, Gyeonggi Province held the ‘031 The FIRST DAY’ event at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Gwanggyo Office to present appointment letters to 47 newly appointed public officials and celebrate their entry into public service.
The event name ‘031’ signifies ‘the first day (1) of starting (3) the life of a public official (0),’ derived from Gyeonggi Province’s area code ‘031.’ The 47 new public officials participating in the event included 26 Grade 7 officials, 9 Grade 9 officials, and 12 research and guidance staff.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon met with the new appointees and said, “The global economic landscape is changing. Technology has reached a level where generative artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence, and the climate crisis is not a future issue but a present one. How are leaders and policymakers in Korea responding to this situation? I hope Gyeonggi Province will take a distinctly different approach.”
He added, “I hope the collective intelligence of Gyeonggi, formed by the dedication of each and every one of you, will transform Gyeonggi Province and, further, change the Republic of Korea. Let us all become one team for the development of Gyeonggi Province and Korea.”
Governor Kim also did not hold back on advice as a senior public official.

I hope you will be spirited and courageous. To do so, you must develop your skills, steadily build human maturity and dedication to the public good, and work with conviction.”
The event, attended by family, friends, and senior public officials, began with an orientation on navigating the office building, followed by the appointment letter ceremony, a video screening featuring the new employees, a reading of thank-you letters from family members, and a communication session with the governor.
Governor Kim personally placed public official ID badges around the necks of the new officials, offering words of encouragement and congratulations.
