Emart announced on the 21st that it will launch a new "Prepaid Rechargeable Ematicon" on the Emart app starting from the 22nd.
Ematicon is a mobile gift certificate that can be used at Emart, Traders, and No Brand directly operated stores. Since its first issuance in 2018, the transaction volume has increased every year, with last year's transaction volume growing more than 27 times compared to the first year of sales.
The prepaid rechargeable Ematicon allows customers to purchase gift certificates on the Emart app and freely recharge in units of 10,000 KRW up to a maximum of 500,000 KRW. Unlike the existing Ematicon, which is divided into 10,000, 30,000, 50,000, and 100,000 KRW denominations, customers can recharge only the amount they want. It also features an automatic recharge function that automatically adds funds monthly or when the balance falls below a set threshold.
Payment methods have been diversified to enhance payment convenience. Previously, only card payments were possible when purchasing Ematicon on the Emart app, but after the renewal, simple payments and account payments are also available.
The design of gift Ematicons has also been expanded from a single image to over 70 options. This reflects the trend of easily gifting mobile coupons for birthdays and anniversaries.
Going forward, Emart plans to further enhance the Ematicon service and improve user convenience by adding features such as partner point conversion. When using Ematicon, if customers use Emart app’s one-touch payment feature "Emart Pay," they can combine payments with other methods, accumulate Shinsegae points, and use discount coupons all with a single barcode scan.
Emart will continue to operate the existing balance management type and full-use type Ematicons through external channels outside the Emart app.
Baek Gwang-su, head of Emart B2B, said, "We are introducing the prepaid rechargeable Ematicon to strengthen customer benefits and convenience in line with the expanding mobile gifting and online coupon market trends. Through gradual service enhancements, we will provide differentiated value to customers."
