'Shaving Ceremony and Fasting...' Aftermath of Gwangju Gwangsan, Democratic Party Announces 3-Person Primary
The Democratic Party primary election in Gwangsan-gu (Eul), Gwangju Metropolitan City, which faced a fierce backlash after the announcement of the screening results by the Democratic Party's Public Office Candidate Recommendation Management Committee, will change from a two-person race to a three-person race.
The Democratic Party's Supreme Council accepted and approved the three-person primary election in Gwangsan-gu (Eul), Gwangju, which the Reexamination Committee requested for re-evaluation.
Accordingly, the primary election will be contested by the incumbent National Assembly member Min Hyung-bae, former Blue House senior administrative officer Jeong Jae-hyeok, and former Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy spokesperson Kim Seong-jin. The reexamination request from former Blue House administrative officer Choi Chi-hyun was not accepted.
Regarding this, former spokesperson Kim issued a statement saying, "With today's decision by the Democratic Party leadership, we have upheld the Gwangju spirit of fairness, justice, and democracy, corrected the unfair trick nomination, and preserved better democratic values," and added, "I welcome the Democratic Party leadership's decision as it has given hope to the citizens of Gwangju and party members."
He continued, "This is not a trick nomination but a fair and honorable restoration of the damaged Gwangju spirit, taking a step to protect democracy in the Republic of Korea," and emphasized, "I will do my best to ensure a fair primary election with the remaining preliminary candidates during the remaining period."
