Chuyoung Choi, an undergraduate student who received the DGIST Chairman’s Award, was recognized not only for outstanding academic performance but also for conducting research and campus activities in various fields, including the DGIST undergraduate research program UGRP (Undergraduate Group Research Program), industry-academia linked internship program (Coop), and talent donation volunteer work. Choi said, “With quality education and an excellent research environment, I was able to focus on my studies and research and achieve good results,” adding, “I will grow into an outstanding global science talent through the academic knowledge and diverse experiences I gained at DGIST.”
Among this year’s graduates, some have recently shown outstanding achievements. Undergraduate graduate Taeyoon Kim from the Basic Sciences Department received the ‘2023 Korea Talent Award’ (hosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by the Korea Student Aid Foundation) for his accomplishments, including publishing numerous papers related to robotics and assistive technology for the visually impaired, winning excellent research awards, and filing patents.
Undergraduate graduate Ukjin Jeong from the Basic Sciences Department, unusually as an undergraduate, published a first-author paper on environmentally friendly hydrogen production through photoelectrochemical methods in the SCI-level international journal ‘ChemSusChem’ in the field of chemistry, and was recognized for research excellence by being selected as a silver prize winner at the 10th Donggyo Talent Awards.
DGIST President Geonwoo Lee said, “I hope you will become innovative pioneers who lead the future through lifelong learning by continuously challenging and exploring your research fields, expanding your knowledge and experience with a spirit of cooperation and consideration,” adding, “I hope you grow into talents who contribute to the development of the nation and local communities by giving back more than the benefits you received while attending DGIST.”
Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, DGIST is a science and technology institute directly under the Ministry of Science and ICT. Since opening its graduate and undergraduate programs in 2011 and 2014 respectively, it has produced 1,900 convergent science talents. It also highlighted its excellence by ranking 7th in the world in the QS World University Rankings research indicator for citations per faculty member.
