Pohang City Wins 'Korea Lifelong Learning City Good Policy Award' for Two Consecutive Years
Cheongnimdae Lifelong Learning Center Operation, Sweeping 4 Categories Including Good Policy Award

Pohang City has achieved the remarkable feat of winning the Korea Lifelong Learning City Good Policy Award for the second consecutive year, following last year's success.
Mayor Lee Gang-deok of Pohang visited the Pohang Lifelong Learning Center on the 8th to celebrate winning the Korea Lifelong Learning City Good Policy Award for the second consecutive year and took a commemorative photo with the staff.
View original imageOrganized by the National Lifelong Learning City Council, the 'Korea Lifelong Learning City Good Policy Award,' now in its second year, is given to local governments and lifelong learning institutions that have implemented outstanding lifelong education policies that transform citizens' lives among 196 lifelong learning cities nationwide.
In particular, Pohang City dominated all four categories this year, solidifying its status as the representative city of the Gyeongbuk region.
First, in the Good Policy category, Pohang received the award for the operation of the Cheongrimdae Lifelong Learning Center, established within the Marine Corps 1st Division military housing?the first of its kind nationwide. This center was highly evaluated as a successful case of lifelong learning involving the private sector, government, and military together.
The Cheongrimdae Happy Learning Center, jointly operated by the private sector, government, and military, expanded lifelong learning participation opportunities for military personnel and their families and also provided lifelong learning opportunities to nearby residents, resulting in high satisfaction among participants.
Additionally, Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang City and representative of the Gyeongbuk region in the National Lifelong Learning Cities, received a plaque of appreciation recognizing his efforts toward the development of lifelong learning. The head of Pohang City's Lifelong Learning Division and other officials also received commendations, sweeping all categories.
Pohang City was designated as a lifelong learning city by the Ministry of Education in 2012 and is advancing as a leading lifelong learning city in Korea with the nation's largest lifelong learning center facilities and well-established program operations.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok stated, “I am very honored that Pohang City's lifelong learning projects have received such excellent evaluations. We will continue to discover substantial educational programs so that all 500,000 citizens of Pohang can enjoy a happy life through lifelong learning and become a representative lifelong learning city in Korea.”

This year, Pohang plans to further increase citizen satisfaction by operating lifelong learning delivery courses, allowing citizens to easily access desired courses at preferred locations. The city also intends to make every effort to host the 12th Gyeongbuk Province Lifelong Learning Expo scheduled for 2025 and to establish the foundation for designation as a lifelong learning city for people with disabilities.
