20s Who Assaulted Junior for Refusing to Join Illegal Loan Scheme...Probation in First Trial
Allegations of Detaining and Assaulting a Runaway Junior Colleague
In their 20s, individuals who found a teenage junior who had fled after refusing to participate in illegal loans, beat him dozens of times with a baseball bat, and confined him, were sentenced to probation.
The Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 4 (Presiding Judge Jeong In-young) announced on the 13th that A, who was tried on charges including special injury, was sentenced to one year in prison with three years of probation, and the other four, including B, were each sentenced to six months to one year in prison with two years of probation.
In July of last year, A and others pressured their teenage junior C, who usually lived with them, to engage in so-called 'work loans.' They attempted to obtain a loan of over 100 million won from a financial company by creating fake documents in C’s name. However, C refused and disappeared, and A and others searched for him and found him in Busan.
A’s group confined C at a lodging facility and A’s house, assaulting him on the cheeks, arms, and back of the hands. They also brought an aluminum baseball bat and struck C’s buttocks about 15 times. Although A and others initially released C, when he did not respond to their calls, they found him again and forced him to take out the work loan. When C continued to refuse, they made him lie face down in a secluded underpass and took turns beating him more than 20 times with the baseball bat.
They then moved to places such as a park, repeatedly hitting C’s face, ribs, and torso like a punching bag dozens of times. Even when C staggered or fainted, they revived him, strangled his neck, and beat his entire body again.
The Uljugun closed-circuit television (CCTV) control center witnessed suspicious scenes in the park and reported it, and only after police officers arrived was C able to escape the beating.

The court stated, “They pressured the younger victim to commit the criminal act of ‘work loans’ and, when he refused, confined, assaulted, and subjected him to harsh treatment, which is a serious offense. In particular, A led the crime and involved other juniors, making his culpability heavy.” The court added, “However, A appears to have spent a considerable time in custody reflecting on his actions, and the defendants reached an amicable agreement with the victim, which was taken into consideration in sentencing.”
