Come See the 'Botong-ui Ilsang' Exhibition... Seokchon Lake Emerging Artists Contest Exhibition
Second Exhibition of Emerging Artists Held at Cultural Experiment Space Hosu from February 14 to March 3
Exhibition of Two Emerging Artists ▲Kang Ria ▲Song Gijae with the Theme 'Ordinary Daily Life'
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will hold the emerging artists' open call exhibition "Ordinary Everyday Life" at Hosu, a cultural experimental space located at Seokchon Lake.
The district launched the "Emerging Artists Open Call" in October last year with the aim of expanding opportunities for emerging artists to engage in local activities and providing local residents with opportunities to enjoy culture in their daily lives. Fifteen young artists from various fields including Western painting, Eastern painting, and three-dimensional sculpture were selected.
This "Ordinary Everyday Life" exhibition is the second exhibition from the emerging artists open call and features two Western painting artists, ▲Kang Ria and ▲Song Gijae. Both artists present their interpretation of "ordinary everyday life" through works that traverse the worlds of reality and idealism. The exhibition runs from February 14 to March 3, 2024.
Artist Kang Ria captures moments of reality, idealism, and desire on canvas using paper as a medium. She expresses the self that does not remain in the ideal world but moves toward an uncertain reality.
Artist Song Gijae symbolizes Icarus from mythology, who falls without knowing the limits of his wings, as a metaphor for modern people. All of the artist’s works feature a person wearing a round rabbit mask, portraying modern individuals as directionless, lonely, and anxious beings, while also embodying curiosity toward ideals. Additionally, an exhibition-linked program where visitors can communicate with the artists and create their own artwork will be held. A "Basic Pencil Drawing Class" with Song Gijae is planned, and advance registration is available through the Seoul Public Service Reservation system.
The exhibition is open to the public without prior reservation. Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, closed on Mondays and public holidays.
