Kwon Hyang-yeop, who was nominated by the Democratic Party in the 21st general election to challenge Seo Dong-yong and seek revenge, is a native of Gwangyang and serves as the vice-chairman of the Democratic Party's Policy Committee.
The only candidate from Gokseong, former Gokseong County Governor Yoo Geun-gi, boasts 37 years as a Democratic Party member and experience as a provincial assembly member and county governor. Emphasizing "warm politics and politics of consolation," he is attracting voter support.
Additionally, preliminary candidate Lee Chung-jae has worked for 32 years in Gwangyang City as the chairman of the Kim Dae-jung Memorial Project Gwangyang branch steering committee and has served as a labor expert and labor special advisor to presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung.
The Progressive Party Jeonnam Provincial Party has early on confirmed Yoo Hyun-joo, chairwoman of the Gwangyang City committee, as their candidate and is launching an all-out campaign.
