Presidential Office: "President Yoon Urges a Fair and Transparent System Where No One Receives Special Privileges"
Former Presidential Office Member, Ruling Party Stronghold Announces Successive Candidacies
The Presidential Office stated on the 5th regarding the upcoming April general election nominations, "President Yoon Seok-yeol has repeatedly urged the party to ensure a fair and transparent nomination system where no one receives special treatment."
In a press release issued by the spokesperson's office, the Presidential Office said, "We would like to reiterate our position concerning some reports that former Presidential Office officials have applied in ruling party stronghold areas," conveying this message.
The People Power Party released the list of 'general election district nomination applicants' the day before, and media reports indicated that former Presidential Office officials mostly applied in ruling party stronghold areas such as Gangnam in Seoul and Yeongnam.
Earlier, on the 3rd of last month, Asia Economy reported under the headline "61.3% of Presidential Office officials competing against People Power Party lawmakers," stating that former Presidential Office officials were lining up to run in the ruling party's strongholds.
Following this report, as various media outlets and political circles raised criticisms, it is interpreted that the Presidential Office directly urged the party once again to maintain a fair and transparent nomination system.
President Yoon Suk-yeol is listening to a participant's remarks at the "Eighth Public Discussion on Livelihoods with the People - Medical Reform to Save Lives and Communities," held on the 1st at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.
