Busan City and City Council Hold Expert Forum to Strengthen Competitiveness of Gadeokdo New Airport
Busan City, together with the Busan City Council (Chairman An Seong-min), will hold an "Expert Forum to Strengthen the Competitiveness of Gadeokdo New Airport" at 2 p.m. on the 6th in the city hall's main conference room.

View original imageThis forum is the first expert discussion held locally to discuss ways to enhance the competitiveness of Gadeokdo New Airport since the announcement of the "Basic Plan for the Construction Project of Gadeokdo New Airport" on December 29 last year.
About 100 participants are expected, including Kim Gwang-hoe, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Busan, Park Jung-mook, Vice Chairman of the City Council, local experts in aviation, logistics, urban and transportation fields, members of the Southeast Regional Gateway Airport Promotion Committee, as well as civic groups, academia, and business circles.
The forum will proceed with keynote presentations followed by panel discussions. Participants will focus on exploring ways to enhance the competitiveness of Gadeokdo New Airport as a global gateway airport under the theme "The Future Vision and Future Tasks of Gadeokdo New Airport toward Busan as a Global Hub City."
The first keynote presentation will be delivered by Lee Eun-jin, Senior Research Fellow at Busan Development Institute, on "Early Expansion Plan for Phase 2 of Gadeokdo New Airport to Strengthen Competitiveness as a Global Gateway Airport," and the second keynote presentation will be given by Kim Jae-won, Dean of the College of Aviation at Silla University, on "Building a Global Aviation Network and Fostering Hub Airlines."
The panel discussion will be chaired by Woo Jong-gyun, Professor at Dongmyung University School of International Logistics. Panelists include Cho Sang-jin, member of the Construction and Transportation Committee of the Busan City Council; Kim Yul-sung, Dean of the Graduate School of Global Logistics at Korea Maritime and Ocean University; Kim Young-rok, Professor of Aviation Operations at Silla University; and Lee Sang-guk, Senior Research Fellow at Busan Development Institute. These local airport experts, who have also served as advisory members for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Gadeokdo New Airport construction project, will discuss key tasks and effective policy directions to strengthen the competitiveness of Gadeokdo New Airport.

Kim Gwang-hoe, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, said, "This forum is a follow-up discussion on the 'Vision and Strategy for Gadeokdo New Airport' announced by the city on January 11." He added, "In particular, this forum marks the beginning of serious discussions on the early expansion of Phase 2 of Gadeokdo New Airport and the realization of a top 50 global mega-hub airport. Our city plans to continue creating platforms for discussion to concretize the vision and strategy for Gadeokdo New Airport through close communication with the city council, experts, and the local community. Through this, we will strengthen the competitiveness of Gadeokdo New Airport as a core foundation of Busan as a global hub city and lead to its successful opening in 2029."
