'High Quality and Affordable Prices'... Mapo-gu Hosts Direct Market for Lunar New Year Celebration
February 1-2 from 10 AM to 6 PM at Mapo-gu Office Plaza... Agricultural and Specialty Products Sold Cheaper Than Market Price to Lighten Holiday Shopping Burden
Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Gang-su) will hold the "2024 Lunar New Year Agricultural and Specialty Products Direct Market and Bazaar" at the district office plaza from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. over two days, February 1st and 2nd, to celebrate the traditional Korean holiday, Seollal.
The agricultural and specialty products direct market is prepared by Mapo-gu to ease the financial burden on residents amid high inflation and high interest rates, opening annually ahead of the holiday season when consumption of agricultural and specialty products increases.
This direct market will feature participation from Mapo-gu’s sister cities: Gochang-gun in Jeonbuk, Yecheon-gun in Gyeongbuk, Sinan-gun in Jeonnam, Cheongyang-gun in Chungnam, Namhae-gun in Gyeongnam, and Ongjin-gun in Incheon. Additionally, Gokseong-gun in Jeonnam, Imsil-gun in Jeonbuk, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Office, Goesan-gun in Chungbuk, and Sangju-si in Gyeongbuk will also participate.
Participating farms and producer groups will sell carefully prepared traditional holiday foods such as apples, jujubes, and Korean sweets (hangwa), as well as traditional foods like red pepper powder, gochujang (red chili paste), and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste), along with regional specialties such as cheese, seaweed, and dried persimmons at prices lower than market rates.
In addition, the Mapo-gu Volunteer Center will hold a bazaar selling various foods and knitted products, donating the proceeds to the Mapo Welfare Foundation to support neighbors in need within the community, adding a spirit of sharing to the event.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “In these difficult times of rising prices, we hope residents can purchase high-quality products at affordable prices through the direct market and bazaar and enjoy a rich and abundant Lunar New Year holiday. Mapo-gu will continue to do its best to develop and implement price stabilization measures that residents can feel directly.”
