Leak of Diplomatic Confidential Documents, Former Pakistan Prime Minister Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of leaking state secrets, according to local media and AFP.

View original imageOn the 30th (local time), according to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the court sentenced former Prime Minister Khan and opposition PTI Vice Chairman and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to 10 years in prison for charges related to the leak of diplomatic documents.
Former Prime Minister Khan is currently serving a 3-year prison sentence for failing to properly declare gifts received during his tenure and has been incarcerated since August last year. After becoming Prime Minister in August 2018, he clashed with the powerful military establishment over foreign policy and other issues, and stepped down from the premiership in April 2022 following a no-confidence vote in parliament.

He attempted to run in the general election scheduled for the 8th of next month to make a political comeback but was disqualified during the candidate registration process. PTI has also been banned from using its party symbols by the authorities, forcing most PTI candidates to run as independents in the election.
