Korea Ranks 1st Consecutively Twice in OECD International Digital Government Evaluation
2nd Denmark, 3rd United Kingdom
South Korea ranked first overall for the second consecutive time in the "2023 Digital Government Evaluation" conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 30th, South Korea achieved first place consecutively in the two evaluations, following the 2019 assessment. The OECD initiated this evaluation in 2019 to measure the level of digital transformation in government and public sectors among its member countries.
In the 2023 Digital Government Evaluation, the OECD assessed 33 member countries and 5 non-member countries across six categories. The top 10 countries following South Korea were Denmark, the United Kingdom, Norway, Australia, Estonia, Colombia, Ireland, France, and Canada. In the 2019 evaluation, only two Asian countries?South Korea (1st) and Japan (5th)?were in the top 10, but this time South Korea was the only one.
South Korea scored 0.935 out of 1 point in the overall digital government evaluation index, an increase of 0.193 points from the previous assessment. Denmark, ranked second, scored 0.811 points, making the gap between first and second place 0.124 points. This solidified South Korea’s first place with a score difference more than 20 times larger than the 0.006-point gap in 2019.
By category, South Korea ranked first in four of the six areas: data-driven government, platform government, open government, and proactive government. It ranked second in the other two categories: digital-first government and citizen-driven government.
