The 'Disaster Safety Industry Support Center,' which will serve as a technology cooperation hub for leading and fostering the disaster safety industry in the Busan area, has been established for the first time nationwide and will begin full-scale operation.
Busan City will hold the opening ceremony of the 'Disaster Safety Industry Support Center (Suandong, Dongnae-gu)' at 2 p.m. on the 30th at the Myeongnyun Drainage Pump Station area in Suandong, Dongnae-gu.
The opening ceremony will proceed in the order of opening ceremony - introduction of guests - congratulatory speeches - commemorative events - center tour, attended by the mayor, local members of the National Assembly, city council members, Dongnae-gu mayor, district council members, and related organization officials.
The newly opened Disaster Safety Industry Support Center will serve as a comprehensive support platform for the disaster safety industry, acting as a hub for technology cooperation and industrial promotion that leads the scientific and industrial development in the disaster safety field, including research and development, planning, and support.
It was built for the first time nationwide in Busan, with five floors above ground, a total floor area of 1,972㎡, and a total project cost of 20.7 billion KRW (6 billion KRW from the national government, 11.4 billion KRW from the city, 1 billion KRW from special grants, and 2.3 billion KRW from others).
Full-scale operation is scheduled to begin in February.
The operation of the center will be managed by Busan Technopark, which has been in charge of disaster safety industry support projects. It is expected to operate stably with its abundant local project experience and capabilities.
To select the operating agency, the city promoted a public recruitment for private consignment agencies according to relevant laws and regulations, and through a selection committee including private experts, Busan Technopark was selected as the entrusted agency based on fair evaluation criteria.
The Disaster Safety Industry Support Center will aim to establish a foundation for fostering the disaster safety industry by serving as a comprehensive hub for supporting disaster safety companies through industry-academia-research cooperation and workforce training, providing use of testing and research equipment, planning disaster safety technology R&D projects, performance testing of disaster-type specialized products, evaluation certification, and other company support and development programs, as well as convenience facilities.
In particular, the city plans to actively promote the strengthening of regional disaster safety industry competitiveness based on the 'Five-Year Comprehensive Plan for Disaster Safety Industry Promotion (2024?2028),' including ▲infrastructure establishment (activation of the Disaster Safety Industry Support Center, cluster construction, attraction of promotion facilities), ▲industry promotion (activation of R&D and company support, pilot city for testbed, support for overseas expansion of companies), ▲activation of the industrial ecosystem and establishment of the Korea Disaster Safety Association (headquarters attraction), hosting safety industry expos, and training specialized personnel.
The city expects that the opening of the Disaster Safety Industry Support Center will activate the high value-added new industry of disaster safety and greatly contribute to the development of the local economy.
