A professor of neurosurgery has been appointed as the 34th director of Jeonnam National University Hospital.
According to Jeonnam National University Hospital on the 28th, the Ministry of Education officially appointed Professor Jeongshin, who was recommended as a candidate by the hospital's board last November, as the next hospital director on the 26th. The term is three years, from the 29th until January 28, 2027.
New director Jeongshin is recognized as a top authority in neurosurgery, renowned for expertise in brain tumors. He graduated from Jeonnam National University College of Medicine in 1986 and earned a Ph.D. in medicine from Jeonnam National University Graduate School in 1993.
After joining Jeonnam National University Hospital as a professor in 1993, he completed overseas training at Osaka City University in Japan, the University of Toronto in Canada, and Karolinska Institute in Sweden. Since then, he has demonstrated world-class medical capabilities and active international academic activities in the field of brain tumors.
He is well known as an authority in approximately 6,000 brain tumor surgeries, complex skull base surgeries, and vestibular schwannoma surgeries, with over 380 published papers, numerous invited lectures domestically (184 times) and internationally (45 times), and 31 research grants, contributing to raising the international reputation of neurosurgery.
In particular, he has received several domestic and international academic awards related to brain tumors, including the Best Paper Award from the Asian Society for Neuro-Oncology, and was recognized for his outstanding research capabilities by receiving the 6th Seobong Medical Award.
He also gained management and planning expertise by serving in key hospital positions such as Director of Education and Research, Director of Planning, Director of Medical Affairs, and Head of the JCI Promotion Headquarters at Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital, as well as serving as the 8th director of Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital.
Externally, he has held positions such as Executive Director of the Korean Neurosurgical Society, Chair of the Future Committee of the Korean Neurosurgical Society, President of the Korean Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Society, President of the Korean Skull Base Surgery Society, President of the Korean Brain Tumor Society, and President of the Korean Society of Geriatric Neurosurgery. He is currently serving as President of the Korean Neurosurgical Society and as an advisory member of the Korean Society for Neuro-Oncology.
