Preventing Fires in Dongjak-gu Traditional Markets... Strengthening Facility Safety
Improvement of IoT Fire Alarm Facilities in 5 Traditional Markets and Shops... Fire Patrol Robots to be Promoted This Year
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) is making every effort to modernize facilities and manage safety in major traditional markets and shopping districts to proactively prevent fires and create a safe market environment.
Due to the nature of traditional markets, which have a high flow of people and densely packed stores, it is important to prevent fires in advance as they can lead to large-scale fires.
Accordingly, the district invested over 200 million KRW last year to install fire alarm facilities based on the Internet of Things (IoT) in a total of 255 stores, including Seongdae Traditional Market, Sangdo Traditional Market, Namseong Station Alley Market, and Sadang 1-dong Shopping District.
The IoT-based fire alarm facilities detect heat, smoke, flames, etc., in case of fire and automatically notify the fire station and store owners immediately.
The district also monitors 24 hours a day through a closed-circuit (CCTV) integrated control center for rapid fire response.
In particular, this year, the district plans to introduce the ‘Fire Patrol Robot,’ which is currently being pilot-operated by Seoul City, to traditional markets in the area.
The Fire Patrol Robot uses robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) technology to perform fire surveillance and alarms during late-night hours, initial firefighting, and evacuation guidance.
Additionally, in preparation for the Lunar New Year holiday, from the 29th to the 31st, joint inspections will be conducted with safety experts targeting 17 traditional markets and shopping districts vulnerable to fire.
The inspection items include ▲operation of electrical equipment and circuit breakers ▲appropriateness of gas container storage ▲installation and operation of fire-fighting equipment, covering safety management in electrical, gas, and fire-fighting fields.
Furthermore, the district invested about 320 million KRW to revitalize traditional markets and ensure residents’ safety and convenience by carrying out installation and reinforcement projects for sky awnings, landscape lighting, security CCTV, and broadcasting equipment in five major traditional markets and shopping districts in the area.
First, additional rain guards and gutters were installed and reinforced at the lower part of the public canopy (sky awning) installed on the roof of Namseong Sagye Market. The public canopy blocks snow, rain, and sunlight, allowing visitors to shop without being affected by the weather.
Along with this, various facility modernization projects were promoted to improve the environment, including ▲installation of landscape lighting using linear lights in Seongdae Traditional Market ▲expansion of security CCTV in Sadang 1-dong Food Alley Shopping District ▲installation of broadcasting equipment in Namseong Station Alley Market.
This year, the district plans to conduct maintenance work on old wiring and facilities targeting 159 stores to create a safe environment free from fire and electric shock accidents.
