Ha Heon-sik Announces Candidacy for Gwangju Seo-gu Gap... First Official Declaration from People Power Party
"Making Children Proud to Be from Gwangju"
Six Promises Including Youth Job Creation, Elderly Health, and Urban Revitalization
Ha Heon-sik, former chairman of the People Power Party’s Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu (Eul) district committee, announced his candidacy for the Seo-gu (Gap) electoral district in the 22nd National Assembly election. He is the first among the People Power Party candidates to make an official declaration.
On the 25th, Ha held a press conference at the Gwangju Metropolitan Council and stated, “I will make sure our children are proud to be from Gwangju.”
Ha explained that he decided to run in this general election to overcome the critical era that South Korea is facing with all his might and to achieve the victory of liberal democracy.
He continued, “The citizens of Gwangju were never affiliated with any party; they were simply righteous citizens who loved democracy. However, politicians driven by political ambition pushed Gwangju toward the opposition party, ignored communication, and caused bias. As a result, Gwangju, labeled as a stubborn opposition stronghold, has suffered tremendous regional damage under every regime since liberation,” he emphasized.
He added, “Now, Gwangju must make a balanced choice. It is time to correct the tilted playing field. I will straighten the flow of Gwangju,” and said, “For a balanced Gwangju, I will devote my last youth to discard non-communication and roll up my sleeves for a Gwangju that communicates.”
He also presented six pledges: ▲ Realizing the state-led relocation of the military airport and enhancing Gwangju’s momentum through development of the military airport site ▲ Creating the Yeongsan River Sunset Deck Trail and Hwangto Trail ▲ Creating youth jobs through customized youth capacity-building programs for the Gwangju region ▲ Building a public reading room for Seo-gu youth ▲ Creating jobs for the elderly and establishing a senior health healing center ▲ Revitalizing the old downtown to activate the commercial city.
Former Chairman Ha Heon-sik added, “I will definitely go to the National Assembly in this general election and pioneer a new destiny for Gwangju.”
