Shintong Planning No.1 Introduces Projects Based on City-District Cooperation Including Namsan Height Restriction Relaxation
"The first place to realize the Rapid Integrated Planning prepared by Mayor Oh Se-hoon is Sindang 10 District in Jung-gu."
On the 24th, Kim Gil-seong, head of Jung-gu Office, said this at the '2024 Jung-gu Budget Briefing with Seoul City' held at Shinsegae Namsan Trinity Hall in Jangchung-dong, emphasizing that when Jung-gu, located in the heart of Seoul, closely cooperates with Seoul City, the city's competitiveness can be significantly enhanced.
He also explained that the relaxation of the Namsan height restriction is a case where the long-standing regulation, unchanged for 30 years, was rationally lifted through the combined will of Jung-gu residents and Seoul City.
Kim then stated, "Last year, I visited the Netherlands Market Hall, which Mayor Oh recommended as a must-see for market innovation, and gained hints on how to transform our traditional markets." The Jungang Market in Jung-gu was selected last year for Seoul City's Design Innovation Traditional Market Development Project and receives over 10 billion won in support from the city. Kim expressed his intention to develop the upper part of the Jungang Market arcade into a space "where all generations can enjoy and linger," seeking Seoul City's support.
In addition, he requested Seoul City's attention to △ the operation of the Myeongdong Outdoor Advertising Free Display Zone △ the construction of a K-POP complex cultural facility in Hunryeonwon Park △ the construction of the Dongdaemun Transfer Public Parking Lot in Gwanghui-dong to alleviate downtown parking difficulties.
On the same day, Mayor Oh Se-hoon briefed about 600 Jung-gu residents gathered at the event on the 2024 Seoul City budget and administrative operation direction. He announced that to overcome the difficult economic situation at home and abroad, with decreasing tax revenues and increasing debt, the budget for this year was tightened and reduced by 1.45 trillion won compared to last year.
He then introduced Seoul City's Yakja Donghaeng (Medicine Together) project. The pilot 'Safe Income' system, which supplements the shortcomings of the existing basic livelihood security system, is gaining attention as a new model of K-welfare. Residents gave a big round of applause for the city's meticulous care for the vulnerable through programs such as 'Seoul Learn,' which provides quality lectures and textbooks to low-income students, 'Donghaeng Restaurant' and 'Warmth Warehouse' for residents of jjokbangchon (tiny room villages) and homeless people, and 'Hope Humanities.'
Afterwards, Mayor Oh Se-hoon unveiled a blueprint to enhance Seoul's competitiveness. Among them, he mentioned projects inseparable from Jung-gu such as △ designation of Dongdaemun area as a Beauty Fashion Special Zone △ recreation of green ecological downtown from Toegye-ro to Jongmyo △ establishment of a hub for Seoul's creative industries △ Namsan Project, an ecological treasure loved by people worldwide, stating that when Seoul City and Jung-gu's visions align and move together, greater synergy can be achieved.
