According to the video and details released by the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency on the 24th, at around 2:16 a.m. on December 28 last year, a drunken man in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, entered the Seodaejeon Police Substation in Munhwa-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon, carrying both a bladed weapon and a blunt instrument in his hands. Mr. A was under police investigation for assaulting a backseat passenger who tried to break up a fight he had with a taxi driver the previous day while intoxicated. Dissatisfied with this, he stormed into the substation.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage released by the police shows Mr. A shouting at the officers after entering the substation, "Bring the victim here. Otherwise, I will kill you and then myself," while causing a disturbance. Four police officers on duty at the substation confronted Mr. A, and upon realizing the officers outnumbered him, Mr. A threatened them by placing the bladed weapon against his own neck.

While the officers tried to calm the agitated Mr. A, Officer Park Geon-gyu, a martial arts expert holding a total of 14 black belts in kickboxing, mixed martial arts, hapkido, and jiu-jitsu, put on cut-resistant gloves and quietly approached Mr. A from behind without his knowledge. Officer Park quickly slipped his hands under Mr. A’s armpits to hug him, and a fellow officer standing right in front of Mr. A then took him down to the floor of the substation to restrain him. No one was injured during the process.
